Birth Story

November 1, 2004 was the big day. As we both predicted, Alexander started his trip into this world on Halloween night. Labor started some time in the afternoon and got stronger at around 10 pm so that the Hospital had us come in. The next morning at 11:59 - just in time for his first lunch - Alexander announced his arrival with a loud cry.

Alexander was born at the Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara, CA and without holding you back any longer we publicly announce his birthweight, length, etc.

Alexander's essential 'data'

We spend 3 days in the Hospital, which seemed an eternity. When we finally arrived home, the first visitors were already awaiting our arrival. Helena's brother happened to be in town from Hong Kong and was eager to get a first look at Alexander. Then there was also Grandma and Grandpa, of course.

Alexander's first visitor - uncle Stan

Alexander's grandma was eager to hold him since he came home from the hospital. On a recent visit to her house she finally got her wish. Alexander is growing up so quickly. The pictures you see here are taken when he was 2 months old. Soon, he will start to be mobile, i.e. crawl and walk. For now, he is slowly starting to smile at us and having him squeak in delight when we tickle him is the most rewarding moment you can imagine.

Grandma

Many people ask us how Alexander sleeps. Well, he has his good and not-so-good days. Sometimes he falls asleep at midnight or earlier if we are lucky and on other days he thinks it is fun to stay up until 3am. However, once he sleeps, he now gets a good 6 hours worth, which means that we get a fairly good night sleep as well.

Grandpa

Helena's parents have the home field advantage since they live about an hour from where we live. They got to see quite a bit of Alexander lately. Thomas' parents, on the other hand, visited us in late November and got to see Alexander when he was still very young. We try to stay in touch through pictures and video and hope they can visit from Germany soon.
